Author Consignment
Congratulations on the publication of your book!
We truly appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into publishing a book, and we understand how proud you must be of your accomplishment. We want to express our gratitude for considering The Atlas Collective as a potential place to showcase your work.
We strive to review all submissions in a timely manner, but please be aware that due to the volume of books we receive, the process may take some time. We sincerely appreciate your patience as we assess your book's potential for placement in our store.
Our Consignment Policy
At The Atlas Collective, we’ve designed the following guidelines to ensure that both you and our store have the best possible experience:
No Amazon/CreateSpace Books: We are unable to stock books published via CreateSpace or Amazon, as they are direct competitors to our store.
Stocking Fee: To submit your book for consignment, we ask for a $5 stocking fee. If we are unable to stock your book, we will refund this fee.
Please note that not all books will be accepted for consignment. Our decision is based on several factors, including the space available in our store and the alignment of your book with our current offerings.
Criteria for Consignment Acceptance
When considering your book for consignment, we take into account the following factors:
Genre & Audience: How does your book fit within the genres and target audiences we already serve? We aim for a diverse selection.
Space Availability: We assess how much shelf space we have for additional titles.
Cover Appeal: A strong, professionally designed cover is essential. Covers are often the first thing readers notice, and they play a significant role in sales.
Current Supporter of The Atlas Collective: We take pride in the books we offer and community we foster. We prioritize featuring books by authors who support and engage with our space. If you’re passionate about fostering a vibrant, inclusive literary community, we’d love to have your work on our shelves.
Professional Editing: Has your book been professionally edited? Books that are well-edited are more likely to sell.
Price Point: Is your book priced appropriately for our customers? While readers are often willing to pay a bit more for locally-authored books, pricing should be in line with similar titles in terms of format, genre, and size.
Consignment Agreement
Once we agree to stock your book, the consignment terms are as follows:
Placement: Your book will be placed in the Local Authors section, or in a related category, depending on available space.
Sales Tracking: We will track your book's sales through our inventory system.
Replenishment: We will notify you when it's time to restock your book if it sells out.
Payment: Payment will be issued on the next business day after the 12th of each month. Payment will be issued via ACH.
Removal: Books will be removed from sale after 6 months unless they continue to perform well. In that case, both you and The Atlas Collective can agree to extend the consignment.
Please review the Consignment Application Form for further clarification on our consignment terms.
Tips for Success at The Atlas Collective
While we provide the shelf space, the most effective way for readers to discover your book is through your own marketing efforts. Here are some tips to help you succeed:
Polished Presentation: Ensure your book has been proofread and that the cover is professional and communicates the essence of your book. The quality of your book’s design and presentation is crucial to attracting buyers.
Promote Locally: You are responsible for the promotion and marketing of your book. Leverage your local networks, social media, and word-of-mouth to let people know that your book is available at The Atlas Collective. Personal recommendations from friends, family, and colleagues can have a powerful impact.
Get Creative: Reach out to local book clubs, libraries, schools, and universities to promote your book. Consider creating promotional materials such as bookmarks, postcards, or flyers to distribute in your community.
Press & Media Outreach: Contact local media outlets, including newspapers, radio stations, and bloggers, to help spread the word. A well-crafted press release can also help you get noticed.
Avoid Amazon Links: If you have an online presence, please refrain from linking to Amazon. The Atlas Collective is committed to supporting local authors, and we’d prefer to see your website or social media links that don’t direct customers to Amazon or other large online retailers.
